  • Hikes, but also time to relax, chat and enjoy the good times.
  • A valley away from mass tourism, life in the mountain pastures as it was in days gone by!
  • Cosy accommodation, with a hot bath facing the mountains, and a unique welcome
  • A variety of walks in a small area
  • Relax in the hot baths at Le Monétier

In a nutshell

Do you want to meet people, have a laugh, relax and hike? We've put together a great programme for you, so you can enjoy some great walks in our mountains without having to get up too early in the morning (this isn't a commando/survival course). And don't forget that we're not kidding about the fun things we do every day: aperitifs, getting together in the evening, pétanque! Big programme!

Just a stone's throw from the Italian border, between the Vauban forts and the legendary Col d'Izoard, lies the little village of Cervières. A real wonder. With two hundred inhabitants and ten times as many head of cattle, this is the real mountain!

Leaving from our warm and comfortable lodge (welcome to us!), we'll take a star trail around the village, into the neighbouring valleys, on cool hikes where you don't have to get up at 5am. The Vallée des Fonts, an unspoilt sanctuary of high altitude biodiversity, will be our main playground. The vast alpine pastures give us the chance to vary our routes along the banks of lakes and torrents.

The return to the lodge is a good excuse to relax on the terrace, take a drink and play a serious game of pétanque with the locals.

Day 1 - Welcome and short tour of Italy

You'll be met early in the morning at one of our meeting points, where your guide will introduce you to the week's activities and check your equipment. We'll put you at ease, you're on holiday, relax! Short transfer to the Bourget plain, one of Europe's largest high-altitude wetlands. The landscape opens up, and you'd never think from down here that a suspended valley stretches all the way to Italy! Climb up to the Col Bousson and arrive at the Mautino refuge. Lake of 7 colours, Black Lake. Return to the lodge by minibus. Welcome drink: This is a crucial moment and will set the tone for this fun trip.

Day 2 - Col des Anges

Today we're going straight out on foot! Climb the south face behind the lodge through the village, towards the hamlet of Chalets de l'Alp. Walk under the Chenaillet to observe the very special geological formations we are lucky enough to have here. Geologists come from all over the world to admire these pebbles... Return to the lodge. Today we change sides: After a short transfer in the Fonts valley, we start by climbing through a pleasant larch forest, before emerging among the rhododendrons and attacking the rocky lock that holds back the magnificent Cordes lake. Get out your phone, you're going to make some people jealous on Insta ... Descent to the hamlet of Les Chalps, where a good local beer awaits us in a short-lived restaurant of the same name. On the way, we may see a few edelweiss, depending on the season, but we're more interested in having fun than anything else... Back to the lodge. Hot bath? local beer? Hasn't anyone bought their round yet?

Descent to the Napoléon refuge, then back to the lodge via the Mule trail.

Penultimate evening... We've got to get our table football scores up, it sucks, but there are some good ones anyway!

Gear & equipment:

Clothing:

The following equipment list contains a series of tips on equipment and is compulsory to take with you, but does not oblige you to have the latest equipment. If you want to re-equip yourself or add to your equipment, take advantage of our advice to ensure you have the right gear that's light, warm and comfortable. Good equipment makes for a successful holiday!

Headwear:

  • Cap or hat
  • Light hat or Buff for cooler weather (even in summer, the temperature can drop!)
  • Protection 3 or 4 sunglasses

Bodywear:

  • Long-sleeved and short-sleeved technical underwear (synthetic or merino wool, don't wear cotton in the mountains!)
  • Lightweight fleece jacket
  • Jacket with a waterproof and breathable membrane such as Gore Tex or soft shell, lightweight and compressible to take up less space in your rucksack.
  • Light gloves (fleece or soft shell)
  • Hiking trousers and hiking shorts
  • Waterproof rain trousers

Footwear:

  • Hiking socks ("double-skin" socks are very effective against blisters!).
  • Hiking shoes: if you only need one pair, take high-top shoes. Trail shoes are acceptable as long as you're used to going into the mountains in them and you also have a pair of high tops for the days when they're recommended.
  • Small hiking gaiters can prevent gravel and dry grass from getting into your shoes... practical!

Luggage & other:

  • Water bottle or Camelbak: a total liquid volume of 1.5 to 2 litres is recommended. Please note that you won't be able to refill your water bottle on most hikes, and you shouldn't drink water from streams, even if it looks clean!
  • Sunscreen factor 50/lip protection/pocket knife/liquid (for the days when we come across a refuge - no dispenser in Cervières).
  • 30-litre rucksack
  • Toiletry bag & first-aid kit

Toilet bag with personal kit.
The guide is equipped with a first-aid kit, so bring your own Compeed bandages in case of a blister, Doliprane and any medication you may be taking.

  • Check that you have the right equipment
  • Take spare batteries and a charger for your electronic devices (camera, video recorder, tracking devices etc)
  • Bring some cash and your credit card
  • Leave in a good frame of mind: we're going to have a great time even if we may not happen to not make it to the summit !
  • Before leaving: water the plants, empty the rubbish bin, turn off water and gas, and tell your partner that you're going to have a good time (please not by text message), that you've well deserved... If you don't follow the latter recommendation, you'll most probably kick yourself when you get back!
