Day to day

Day 1: Warm-up in the land of cicadas

Welcome at the train station of Briançon or at the TGV station of Aix. You are in your best mountain bike outfit for the meeting!

Just out of the van, presentation, little check of the equipment and let's go to discover our first hills! We make turn the gambettes gently, we are there to relax and to air the bronchi. We are already going to stretch the amorto on good small paths, turning in the scrubland of the south! and yeah, it's good! Then a mix of forest to get away from it all on the first day!

Break near a lake, and let's go to our fabulous hotel that will amaze us for the next 5 nights!

You will see, it will turn, turn, turn to the point where you will say to yourself "but where is the suuud? But before that, we'll warm up with a quiet access road, and also the first paths that smell of rosemary and lavender! You will love the Esterel for sure!

Day 3: Bear magic ride

No danger, no grizzly in the area! But on the other hand the trails around the "Pic de l'Ours" (Bear's peak) are worth their weight in honey: a nice balcony, a flowy rocky descent, just the right amount of slope: pure re-egalaaade (with the accent!). And all this with a sea view: the Mediterranean is just below! Dantesque landscapes, crazy singles: you will remember this day for sure! The magic of this place: depending on the shape of the group (and of your battery!) you can extend the circuit a lot!

Day 4: Bellebarbe tour

After a warm up, a first descent will allow us to gently get in the mood of the day: beautiful and chôôôli path pure AOP Estérel! Yep it twists and turns to the right, then to the left, then to the right, magic! There are a few bushes that will try to scratch your legs, but you'll get through it like a boss! The guide's advice will make you leave your comfort zone and you'll ride some wonderful downhills today that will delight you from the brakes to the "peuneus" (rhoo this accent!).

Day 5: Vinegar route with rosemary sauce

For this last day under the sun of the suuud (sniff sniff), we will go up to the top of the Mount Vinegar by a succession of tracks and roads to go to admire one last time the panorama on the Mediterranean Sea! This "one shot" ascent will allow us to go on immediately (we'll take the time to take nice pictures don't worry...) on a descent where you'll be able to show off your best riding! Forest, balcony, rocks, pine, in short only good to finish this superb stay on the French Riviera!

Back to the van, we put good music in the zoreilles and return to the points of dispersion, by giving us appointment for other extraordinary adventures!

How technical does it get ? How fit should I be ?

Technical level **

For passionate mountain bikers with several years of experience. You master gear shifting, dose braking, are able to overcome an obstacle by lightening the bike, climb or descend short steep passages. Mountain biker wishing to progress in descents on singletrack rarely steep, sometimes technical (rocks, roots...) but not exposed. Ideal to reinforce the basics to acquire the grail of level 3!

Physical level **

For mountain bikers already practicing regularly the activity, or being regular sportsmen. We will ride on 4x4 trails and progressive uphill trails, with occasional steep climbs. Count on a positive difference in altitude of between 800m and 1200m per day, which is very affordable for an electric mountain bike.

Good to know: If you don't have the required level, the guide might ask you to leave the group for your own safety, that of the group or the well-being of the group as a whole. Don't hesitate to ask us if you have any doubts!

Clothes

This list of clothes is designed to give you an idea of clothes that it may be a good to have with you. By no means do you need to have the latest brands or the latest gear, but if you need to renew your wardrobe, this guide would be a good start. Prefer lightweight warm and comfortable clothing. This is not just a detail, it makes a hell of a difference !

Headwear

  • Sunglasses and glasses with clear lenses for forest sections and cloudy days (it's important to protect your eyes). Photochromic lenses adapt to light intensity and protection categories range from 1 to 3 or 2 to 4 to optimize visibility from shade to brightness. Very useful.
  • A buff and/or thin beanie that you can put under your helmet if it's cold.

Bodywear

  • Under layer: breathable long sleeved top as well as leggings to maintain heat. A tip: merino wool is breathable and has anti-bacterial properties and is therefore less likely to smell as opposed to synthetic fabrics. Have this in mind if you need to update your wardrobe.
  • Outer layer: a light fleece jacket and/or a light hooded down jacket that you can put under a jacket that has a breathable waterproof membrane (soft shell type or Goretex), easy to slip on during a break. Make sure it's lightweight and compact so it doesn't take up too much space in your backpack
  • Bottom layer: mountain biking shorts and leggings in case it gets cold
  • Hands: light fleece or soft shell gloves, a pair of silk glove liners to go underneath, warm gloves with a breathable and waterproof membrane.
  • Swimming gear: it takes up such little space, it would be a shame not to bring it just in case. Avoid swimming shorts or bermudas, they are not usually allowed in pools or hot water springs baths.
  • Good to have: an extra t-shirt in your bike backpack, appreciated after a big sweat on an uphill ride).

Footwear

  • Bike socks: merino wool socks are breathable and have anti-bacterial properties and are less likely to smell as opposed to those made of synthetic fabrics. Remember this if you need to stock up.
  • Slippers or crocs are recommended for evening wear.

Odds & ends

  • a 1 litre flask (Thermos or Camelback)
  • a pocket knife
  • duck tape
  • factor 50 suncream
  • a duffle bag holding up to 90 litres to leave at the gĂ®te, avoid suitcases.

Toiletries and first aid kit

  • Personal toilet bag
  • To make up your a first aid kit, check out the Ifremmont website.

  • Check that you have the right equipment

  • Bring some cash and your credit card
  • Leave in a good frame of mind: we're going to have a great time even if we may not happen to not make it to the summit !
  • Before leaving: water the plants, empty the rubbish bin, turn off water and gas, and tell your partner that you're going to have a good time (please not by text message), that you've well deserved... If you don't follow the latter recommendation, you'll most probably kick yourself when you get back!
