Val Pellice, here's another well kept secret that we are more than happy to share with you. This unspoilt valley on the Italian side of the Piedmont lies just beyond the other side of the Queyras mountain range. The relief enables us to ski on any orientation. If the weather conditions permit, we will spend a night in the neighbouring Queyras. After a day's skiing why not try some ice climbing right next to the mountain hut ? Then, after a well deserved hot shower you can make the most of the cosy ambience of the hut: relax, have a good chat or maybe tinkle the ivories on the piano or the guitar that are in the front room. On this ski touring trip you'll discover an unexpected place that stands out as much for it's simplicity as it does for our host's unforgettable welcome.
Get together at Oulx or Briançon train station. For your own comfort it is possible to arrive in Oulx the previous day before, we can recommend a hotel that is a stone’s throw away from the train station. You can spend the night there and rest before the trip starts. Don’t hesitate to contact us.
From the train station we head to the Val Pellice (approx. two hours drive). Once there, a snowmobile will take our bags up to the mountain hut while we climb up with on skis and skins. We’ll get set up at the mountain hut before heading out for a short skiing session during which the guide will explain how to use safety equipment. We head back to the hut and make ourselves at home for the coming week. Hot showers, a large living room where a piano and guitar may accompany our evenings by the fireplace, what more could you want?
Ascent/descent: +/- 500 m
Meals included: breakfast, picnic and dinner
Accomodation included: Hostel
We start the day with a good hearty breakfast from the buffet.
Then we get ready to head down the end of the valley on a snow mobile for our ski touring outing. We have approx + 1000 m to climb per day: col Manzol, Col Lusiras, col d'Urine, La Mait d’Amunt and more. In the afternoon, you’ll be able to borrow hiking boots, harness and ice axe to do some ice climbing on the icefall just outside the hut.
If weather permits we'll spend two days, including one night, in the neighbouring Queyras.
Afternoon day 6: we descend on our skis to the minibus and head back to Oulx and Briançon.
Ascent/descent: +/- 1000 m per day
Meals included: picnic and dinner
Accomodation included: mountain hut
It is possible to have a half or full day's rest and do some snowshoeing, cross country skiing or try ice climbing next to the hut. At the hut all necessary gear is available.
You can opt to take a half, or full day of rest and use it as you wish. You could, for example do some skiing or climb the cascade outside the hostel. All necessary gear is available at the hut.
If we are unable to reach the hut because of the snow and weather conditions, we’ll organise some other outings in a nearby valley. This may incur and extra cost of €50 per person if we stay somewhere that is more expensive than the hut initially planned. Any extra charges that may arise due to unforeseen event will be at your own cost.
Please note: when we head up to the hostel on day one, a snowmobile comes to pick up our bags for the week and takes them back on the last day. Sometimes use of the snowmobile is not possible due to snow conditions. If this is the case, we will have to take our bags up to the hostel ourselves (2 hours away on foot). Therefore please bring a large backpack that will be able to hold what you need for the trip.
Please note this itinerary is an example of a ski touring trip in Val Pellice, Italy. The guide may adjust certain itineraries and ski areas according to weather and snow conditions as well as participants' abilities. We kindly ask you to respect such decision. We may also change accomodation, maintaining the same standards, according to logistics and availabilities.
We always do our best, but we can't guarantee the exact time of arrival at the train station (due to traffic or weather conditions). Therefore we strongly advise you to buy train tickets that can easily be modified. If you're travelling by car, we'll meet you at the arrival point, or at one of the drop of points where you'll be able to leave your car for the entire trip.
The last day, we try to make it back to Oulx by 5 pm, but we cannot guarantee this.

Free public parking can be found in Briançon and Oulx (both unattended) or just in front of our accommodation.
The slopes may have some short steep passages. You should be at ease with ski touring techniques and skiing on all types of snow. We may also ski on glacier terrain. You should master uphill kick turns without hesitation.
Good physical condition is required, some uphill sections may have to be done on foot. Ascents and descents vary from 800 to 1000 metres per day. Depending on the chosen itinerary, there may be two outings per day. If you're eager you can continue skiing, if you're tired you can rest and relax.
Good to know: if you don't have the level required, the guide will be able to ask you to leave for the well-being of the rest of the group if necessary. If any doubt, please do not hesitate to ask us !
